Twelve Months of Christmas

Hello friends!  I'm running late again but it is still the 25th and that means it's time for the second project in my Twelve Months of Christmas series.

If you recall I decided to make something each month to put into a gift basket for each of our extended family members.  I have quite a fabric stash so I have been on the look out for easy, useful projects to make.  This time around I chose a project I found on Pinterest.  I'm not sure of the designer's name but you can find her post here.
These are great little fabric holders for a notepad, pen and receipts.  The great thing is I had everything in my stash (including a new package of pens) except the notepads....which I still don't have because my local stores are not cooperating.  Anyway, here are 3 of them.  I have 3 more cut out and ready to go and hopefully I will finish them tonight.  They are super quick to put together and her instructions are perfect.  I didn't find any errors at all.
This one is for my mom.  She loves daisies.
Here's the inside.  The notepad will go on the right side.  The left side has 2 pockets which I think will be very handy.

So there ya have it!  Project number 2 done!  (well, almost)  Time to start thinking about next month!

I think that's about it.  Thanks for taking a peek!

12 Months of Christmas - Update

Hello again!  I'm just popping in to show you that I finished my sewing from last week.

If you remember I posted a zippered pouch I made as a Christmas present.  I wanted them all done by the 25th but I ran behind with the cold, snowy weather we had.  However, these were very easy and I did one or two each day and I have all 8 finished!
See?  All done!  In my first post here I gave a link for the tutorial (which is excellent).

I think that's about it.  Thanks for taking a peek!

Another Sewing Project!!!

Hey friends!  It's Wednesday and yes, I do have another project completed on the list in my sewing room!!  Wahoo for me!!

Last week I posted the shirt I fixed of mine that was cut off me after my accident.  What I did not mention in that post is that my two sons, Ben and Josiah, were also in the accident.  Their injuries were not as serious as mine, but Ben did have multiple fractures in his spine.  He wore a neck/brace for 5 weeks.  Thankfully that was 7 weeks less than they told my husband it would be when Ben left the hospital.  Because his back hurt so much the emergency workers cut off all his clothes as well.  The only thing he really cared about was his hoodie, which was his favorite.  Unfortunately he has grown a lot in the last 11 months and the hoodie is too small.  But he put it on for me...
 .....he's 13....he loves to tease....
....he was unwilling to smile for me.....
...somehow I finally made him laugh.  The hoodie was cut up the front and up both arms.  The zipper was cut as well so I had to replace it.  I have tucked his hoodie away with the rest of our clothes.  Like my shirt, it was something I just needed to do.

I think that's about it.  Thanks for taking a peek!

Sewing List Project #4

Hello again! It's Wednesday and I'm so excited to say I have another project done on that list in my sewing room!!

This one is not the same as the other projects.  It's been on my list for a few months, but it .... well .....

Let's start at the beginning.  Some of you know I was in a serious accident 11 months ago.  My injuries were pretty serious and unfortunately (though I do understand the reasons) my clothes were all cut off me.  Including my favorite shirt.  (And my favorite cami and my favorite purple bra.  Though one of my boys did say if I wasn't wearing ALL my favorite things at once.....)  I had made the shirt several years ago.  It's a great pattern and I actually have 4 other shirts made from it.  This one was the first and for some reason became my favorite.  It was my go-to shirt when I was chilly or lazy or just wanted to be comfy.  When I discovered (or at least when I finally remember finding out) that it had been cut off I was very sad.  My clothes sat in the bag from the hospital for several months before I went through them.  I looked at the shirt several times and debated fixing it.  I finally decided it was something I needed to do for me.
Here is the shirt flat on my floor.  They cut up both arms to the neck.
Here is the shirt folded to look like it should but you can still see where it is cut.  I had to sew everything by hand and it really didn't take too long.
And here I am in my comfy corduroy shirt all put back together.  In person you can see the stitching and there are a couple places the fabric must have stretched or something but all-in-all it looks pretty good.  I'm pleased how it turned out.  It's good to have my old friend back!
My Katie helped me take these pictures and she was getting very goofy being a "professional" photographer.  She thought I was very funny when I covered my eyes so she snapped this picture.
She also wanted to show how nice the weather was when we took the pictures.  Not typical December weather for Central New York!

I hope to be back with another project off my list next Wednesday!

I think that's about it.  Thanks for taking a peek!

The Next Project from My Sewing List

OK I'm on track this week!  Last Thursday I told you I was going to post a completed project from my sewing list every Wednesday and today I have another project ready!!

I have some friends who adopted a beautiful baby boy from Ethiopia about 2 1/2 years ago.  I started a small needlework piece soon after they came home and it has been stitched for 2 years.  Then it sat in my basket.  Since my boy has pointed out how long these projects have been sitting around I have been trying to get them done.

I had planned to have this piece framed, I even have a great shop to take it to, but it's not terribly affordable.  I think that's why it has sat for so long, but I decided to stop making excuses and get this put together!
I think this piece was also in an issue of Cross Stitch and Needlework, but honestly it's been so long I can't remember.  His name is Zadok Rediet (Zadok being a Biblical name and Rediet his Ethiopian name.)  They sent out an adoption notice when they came home with him.  It had his birthday on it (December 31) but also said "in our arms May, 11, 2010".  His Grandma and I decided that would be a great thing to put on here.
I had some fat quarters of quilt fabric that really pulled out the feel of the colors.  The outer border is probably my favorite.  It has such a safari, wild animal feel to it....kinda like little Zade!!  He is a little wild man!!  I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that it only took about 3 hours to put this together.  It should have been done months ago, but at least I can wrap it up and send it on its way!

Be sure to check back next week to see what project I can check off my list next!

I think that's about it.  Thanks for taking a peek!
